HO CHI MINH
1890 Ho Chi Minh is born as Nguyen Sinh Cung into the family of a school teacher in the village of Kim Lien in Hue ,central of Vietnam.
1901 Ho’s mother, Hoang Thi Loan (1868-1901), dies.1905-10 Attends the French-run National School in Hue City, the old imperial capital of Vietnam.
1911 Leaves Vietnam for the first time, working as a cook’s helper on the French liner Admiral Latouche-Treville. During this time he visits Africa, Europe, and North America.
1913-14 Works in London as cook’s assistant at prestigious Carlton Hotel.
1917 Goes to Paris and adopts the name Nguyen Ai Quoc.(Nhuyen the patriot)
1919 Under the name Nguyen Ai Quoc, attempts to present list of claims of the Vietnamese people at Versailles Conference in Paris.
1920 Attends the Tours Conference; joins the French Communist Party.
1923-24 Goes to Moscow. Takes part in the 5th World Congress of the Cominterm as a representative of Indochina.
1924-28 Goes to China, Siam (Thailand) as name Thao Chin( prudential elder),goes to Europe and returns to Moscow all to organize revolutionary activities.
1930 Organizes the Indochinese Communist Party (ICP) in Hong Kong.
1931 Arrested in Hong Kong. Spends nearly two years in Hong Kong prison.
1933-35 Returns to Moscow. Attends Lenin School. Takes part in Seventh Congress of Communist International.
1936 Popular Front Government in France allows the Indochinese Communist Party to function legally and openly.
1941 After more than thirty years away from Vietnam, Ho returns, crossing the Chinese border near the village of Pac Bo. The Vietminh is founded.
1942 Nguyen Ai Quoc adopts what is to be his final name, Ho Chi Minh. Ho is arrested and spends more than one year in a Chinese prison.
1944 Released from prison and returns to Vietnam. Directs preparations for a general uprising.
1945 Works with U.S. Office of Strategic Services to rescue downed American fliers in southern China. World War II ends, and Ho declares Vietnamese independence in Hanoi, thus founding the Democratic Republic of Vietnam with Hanoi as its capital and Ho as President.
1946 Ho visits Paris to negotiate violations of agreements. War breaks out between French and Vietminh.
1951 Formation of Lao Dong, successor of International Communist Party.
1954 French are defeated at Dien Bien Phu. Geneva Conference divides Vietnam into two “temporary” zones. Ho returns to Hanoi. 1956 Saigon refuses to hold elections. Land reform program in North Vietnam fails.
1964 Gulf of Tonkin resolution passed by U.S. Congress, and open hostilities begin against North Vietnam.
1969 Ho dies on September 2 in Hanoi.
1975 The war ends. "Ho Chi Minh Campaign" which completely liberated South Vietnam.1976 Vietnam Nation Assembly, unanimously adopted at its first session the country's name as Socialist Republic of Vietnam with Hanoi being capital.
